Art Glass Solutions can take on a variety of cast glass projects. As artists we work closely with manufacutres after the original sculpting and mould making has been completed to create unique works. We are fully involved in the supervision and production of the cast glass component pieces, sculpting the original before making the moulds and casting the crystal glass.

This specialist process means that each glass mould is destroyed after the glass is cast to create one off artworks. We use a special blend of lead crystal glass to create delicate hues and details within the glass that is especially commissioned by our clients.

Our Creative Director has been working with the water jet and laser cutting processes to create unique artworks that focus on the concept of using a highly industrialise technology with a very decorative and ‘hand making’ approach. Pushing both the process and material to the limit, she has been experimenting with complex and difficult designs that others have not yet tired. Her use of the traditional doylie designs within her artworks is a continuation of the development of her signature style, at once beautiful and mathematical in construction and conception.

Emerging from the studio glass movement that first started in the 1960′s, studio art glass continues as a changing and dynamic art movement. Our Creative Director and the glass artists we work with have a hands on approach to making and are glass blowers. We work with studio glass artists from around the world to create specialist blown glass components to offer additional layers of design and decoration outside the genre of the technology based glass blowing factories. Working with professional glass artists we provide more detail and depth – thereby offering only top quality creative artworks.

May–June 2009, Vitria Gallery, Singapore

‘The Red and The Orange’ was our “response to living and working in Asia” as Art Glass Solutions artists. The title of the show came from the colour of our logo – orange – as the starting point for themes and ideas we wanted to develop within the work. The colour orange carries significance, as it also represents our livelihood and passion for hot glass – it is the colour of glowing molten glass.

The colour red has regional cultural significance. Surrounded by many aspects of the Chinese culture, the “prosperity red” is seen everywhere, especially at Lunar New Year. Additionally Singapore is often referred to as ‘the little red dot’, art galleries also denote sales by placing a red dot sticker next to the artwork once sold and a red dot on a map is a marker indicating ‘you are here’.

Thematically, a big part of the show was the two of us working out where we are now – physically within this part of the world and emotionally within our careers. Moving some distance from our homes we find ourselves in a new place, located in this ‘little red dot’ within the South East Asian part of the world… “How did we get?” .

One of the first projects completed by Art Glass Solutions was “Enchanting…”, an art glass installation consisting of large glass flower forms supported on metal stems that grace an office building’s entrance reflection pond. The flowers stand more than two meters high, are 80cm in diameter and exposed to equatorial weather conditions. For this project Jane worked at the Canberra Glassworks in Australia, coordinating a team of 15 artists, who assisted her create the blown glass component pieces. In Singapore Jane worked with Moki Marine Engineering, to fabricate the metal supports and install the artwork. The end result is a permanent installation well worth seeing on your next visit to Harbour Front in Singapore.

In 2009 Jane worked with LRF (Interior) Designers Ltd, based in Hong Kong, for the InterContinental Hotel, Foshan, China to design and create a series of artworks for the Hotel lobby and All Day Dinning areas. This included a large 12 meter glass dome, 9 meter metal screen, freestanding sculptures, 6 meter suspended chandelier and window decorative features. Jane put together creative proposals and the client, impressed with her ideas, quickly confirmed the artworks so production could begin. The deadline for installation was the end of December 2009, just 4 months away.

Jane relocated to China early December for 6 weeks to be close to the factories making the artworks. As the artist it was important that she assisted, advised and supervised the production to ensure the creation went according to plan. Mr Chan and Yen Yen were the key people assisting her liaise with local manufactures while Sui Jackson from Australia and Lu Fang Hsiung from Singapore joined the team to assist supervise and monitor production.

The creative concept for the Dome was based on the Fibonacci Sequence of Numbers and incorporates an ancient Chinese Star Map. The Dome design development was a colossal mathematical and organisational undertaking with over 63,840 individual pieces of glass. Each was cut to an exacting size and shape, the huge puzzle assembled and installed to create a glittering and colourful spectacle. The Stained Glass Factory Jane worked with in China did an excellent job, exacting and high quality.

Concurrently the other complimentary artworks were created in other nearby factories. These included rotating armillary and planetary orbital spheres, a large bronze metal screen inspired by Chinese landscapes, a hanging hot cast glass sculpture and a series of coloured window inclusions cast from resin.

“While working on large archetectural projects it was easy to realise that there is a lot of math in art making! Creating an artwork that is fitting to an architectural space, captures the essence and energy of current culture, that incorporates new and traditional glassmaking techniques is not only challenging, but a massive undertaking.”

The bead making workshop with Carole Griffith was held in September 2008. It was a rare opportunity to learn about bead making and wearable art with renowned Australian glass artist Carole Griffith. Carole’s work has been showcased at The Australian Craft Show, Mind, Body and Spirit Festival, Sydney, at the Museum of Art in Montreal, Canada and in the United Kingdom. Carole says:-

“I love the mesmeric quality of glass and have found this medium so incredibly enthralling and exciting that I studied lampworking at the Australian National University, Canberra. I have found this work captivates and compliments the fun and happiness that I bring to virtually everything I do”.

Art Glass Solutions artist Dominic Fondé and several of his students demonstrated the ‘art of hot glass beadmaking’ throughout the Big Carnival@Marina Bay weekend in July 2010. The event was organised by the URA to mark the official opening of the Marina Bay waterfront promenade and was opened by Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong.

Birdsong, a collaborative glass art project based on an idea by Dominic Fondé for Art Glass Solutions Pte Ltd and Kathryn Pearce of Kathryn Pearce Glass Design developed, was also exhibited at the event and opened to the public. The artworks on display take images of birds as a metaphor for communication. The techniques on show ranged from graal through to engraving, with some works being the direct result of the collaboration between all four artists.
