Welcome to our workshop on upcycling, recycling, and sustainable ways of working with glass. I’m excited to share my knowledge and passion for creating beautiful and environmentally friendly glass art.

Glass is a versatile medium that offers endless possibilities for creativity. However, it’s crucial to consider the environmental impact of our artistic endeavors and find ways to minimize waste and promote sustainability.

Upcycling is a key concept in glass art. By repurposing glass objects that would otherwise be discarded, we can transform them into unique and innovative pieces. Let’s take a look at some examples of upcycled glass art:

We are thrilled to announce the opening of RefindSG, a pioneering company dedicated to upcycling, recycling, and sustainable ways of working with glass. At RefindSG, we believe that art can inspire change and that our creative expressions can contribute to a greener future.

Our mission is to redefine the glass art industry by promoting eco-conscious practices and offering unique, sustainable glass art pieces. We are committed to transforming discarded glass objects into exquisite works of art, breathing new life into materials that would otherwise go to waste.

Activity:

Try your hand at hot glass, working with a flame more than 1,000 degrees Celsius, we start with simple exercises to learn about the hot glass process. Participants experience the fluidity of glass, how to add colours and different decorative techniques.

The glass making sessions starts with basic instruction about how to operate the equipment, followed by the first hot glass exercised, then onto bead making and finally finishing and assembling. Gaining a fundamental understanding of glassmaking is our aim. Learning about a new material is an exciting experience seeing the varieties of colour combinations possible.

Focusing on one design, immersed in the moment of creativity, you have the opportunity to make a keep sake that is immediately ready to string together. Created during the first workshop | return sessions allows you to refine your skills and increase the complexity of colour addictions to each bead.

Activity:

This workshop focuses on making hot glass and is a “hands on experience” suitable for small groups that want to see what it is like to work with hot glass.  Blowing glass without a furnace is possible when you pick up pieces of glass, seal and blow.  This is a new way of working with hot glass that has become popular with contemporary studio glass artists in recent years.

Participants will be able to experience what it is like to work with hot glass.  They can feel the heat, learn the importance of turning the pipe with hot glass on the end and understand the skills required to make sculpt the glass.  Each participant will have the chance to create a small vase or tumbler.

Working at temperatures of more than 1,000 degrees Celsius, you will be getting hot in the ‘hot shop’.  The hot glass making sessions starts with basic instruction about how to move around the studio, then we pick up sheet glass, apply colour and shape the glass to create a shape.
