MY SECRET GARDEN

Private Home, Singapore, 2011

A modern day palimpsest, the concept and overall aesthetic of this artwork developed by B. Jane Cowie is created by a layering of contemporary image making technology, new glassmaking processes, and traditional hand making skills including drawing, engraving and hot glass sculpting.

This exploration of different subjective responses to an abstracted image (a photo taken by the client of an actual object) is the starting point to create an artwork that is layered in images, processes and individual perceptions of an abstraction – in a collective search for meaning.

Using numerous glassmaking techniques, the resulting beauty and elegance of the artwork is immediately evident.

The installation is a contemporary impressionistic response to a lush and beautiful garden, creatively translated through Cowie’s innovative approach to traditional glassmaking techniques and new glassmaking technology.
